About
Jennifer Slotnick
I was born in 1989, grew up in the Bay Area, and live in San Francisco. I went to college at UC San Diego, majoring in Sociology. I learned how to blow glass at the, now defunct, UCSD Craft Center
that was in the old student center.
I would often visit the Craft Center because they had a stadium viewing area where you could watch artists work. The classes offered, though not for credit, were affordable. I began with group
lessons and the first thing I made was a giant fish with colored eyes that stands on fins. After about a year, I took intermediate courses and progressed into making bowls and vases. I opened an Etsy shop,
Mahaila Glass, named after the street I lived on in 2009. Selling pieces made it possible for me to afford private lessons, even while still in college. I’ve sold across the U.S. but this is my first art show.
Over the years, I have worked with many great teachers and artists, most of whom were influenced by the American Studio Glass Movement. I make one-of-a-kind art. Each piece is unique and
shaped by hand. Most of my work is made in one sitting.
